Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast Here it is, we’re at the end of the forecasting season as far as snow goes, and all I can say is… it was a doozy. We saw basically the third smallest snow cover winter in US history and overall the 4th warmest winter on record. Not everyone may have noticed though, especially since a new record was set in Denver for snow storms. Although temperatures were near normal this year for our region, we just didn’t see the moisture needed to pump up the snow makers. Ironically.. the plains seemed to have gotten plenty of rain...

Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast Snow has been plentiful for many resorts across the region, with stand out spots seeing from 12 to 20 inches over the past couple days.  Unfortunately we’re heading into a period of wetter snow through the end of the week. There is a cold front due tonight, which could mean Thursday will be a better day than Friday and the weekend, but with all this wet snow and the strong winds that are expected through the region, it looks like conditions could be a bit dangerous.  The NWS is issuing an avalanche warning for the west facing slopes...

Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast White stuff has been falling from the sky recently in the region, with some areas getting more than 5-10 inches. Another shortwave is going to move towards the 4 corners and Utah tonight. The system should be moving through Nevada as I write this, and headed up towards Utah and New Mexico/southern Colorado tonight into tomorrow.  Most of these areas are looking to get 5 to 10 inches, with stand out resorts possibly getting up to a foot or more.  It looks like another shortwave is expected before the weekend, which could bring another couple...

Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast Snow fall numbers have been pretty low over the last couple days, but we’re looking at things picking up for the end of the week in the higher elevations of the Central Rockies. Things are looking pretty dry today, but the wampa and tauntaun are looking like they could come out to play Thursday and Friday.  It looks like a low out of the NW Pacfiic should be moving across the Great Basin and Northern to Central Rockies Thursday and Friday, bringing some snow fall to the upper terrain in Montana, NE Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.  Right...

Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast Not sure if you’ve heard the news… the Pacific NW is on Snowagedon watch, but what do they know about snow.  The Central US and Rockies are just stoked about getting some fresh pow to mash! Here’s a look at what the Northern Rockies are in for… And the Central and Southern Rockies… basically plenty of new snow in the short-range forecast. Most numbers coming in are all relative to the Cascades, but this zonal jet pattern is bringing a series of storms out of the west, with a ton of moisture associated with...

Rockies and Central US short-range Snow forecast Alright who’s ready to do some exploration to find some good snow to put those new skis/board to use?!  If you’re anywhere near western Montana or Wyoming you may not have to go too far. Short waves lows moving along the zonal jet stream pattern right now are bringing a pretty healthy dumping to the northern Rockies tonight with another round of heavy snow for that area Thursday night through Saturday.  When I say ‘heavy’ I mean a couple of feet or more… for both episodes.  Winds are expected to be pretty crazy...
